ACTION, DRAMA, BLOOD, DISMEMBERMENT, AND CRAZY-AWESOME HAIR

It kind of came out of nowhere. An anime about a samurai on a quest to avenge his father is nothing really new. It’s a very old story. But, throw in some amazing animation with a hip-hop score by the RZA and the voices of Ron Perlman and Samuel L. Jackson, and you end up with an extremely violent and stylish anime series that grabbed the attention of a whole lot of people around the world. This week, a video game based on that anime series is hitting store shelves. If you are a fan of Afro Samurai or just a fan of great action games, you really should check it out. I realize that most games based on anime or TV shows or movies are generally mediocre at best. However, there are always exceptions. Afro Samurai looks to be one of them. The story of the game runs parallel to the series, but rather than cover the same exact events it helps to fill in some of the gaps. Be warned, Afro Samurai very much a “Mature” title, and it’s rated accordingly. So, this is not one for the kiddies. I mean it. There are blood and body parts flying everywhere. Not to mention nudity, smoking, drinking, and lots and lots and lots of swearing. If that stuff bothers you, you should probably find something else to do. This game will not sit well with you. For the rest of you, do yourself a favor and check out some of the slickest action gaming to hit a console.
